About
Us
Having been established in Reading in 1826, A.B.Walker & Son remains
the only truly family owned and run funeral firm in the area.
There are currently four Walker family members working full time
in the firm and together with over 30 members of staff, offer an unparalleled level of personal service. We have four fully equipped offices in Reading, Bracknell, Henley-on-Thames and Wokingham.
Why Independent?
It is our belief that our independence from any larger corporation allows us the necessary flexibility and personal involvement required to provide a truly personal service. It also makes our service directly relevant to the circumstances of the clients and promotes a greater commitment to the community at large.

Our Standard of Service
The UK funeral industry is currently unregulated. To ensure consumer assurance and ensure our clients have confidence in our level of service we are full members of two recognized trade bodies. These are the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD) and the Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF) both of which make regular assessments of our service and policies and provide us with codes of conduct and an independent complains arbitration scheme. A.B.Walker are currently promoting the need for a single industry code of conduct through liaison between all trade organisations and the Office of Trade and Industry. We also hold a local authority Health and Safety award and we are accredited Investors In People employers.

Our Family
The firm is owned and operated by David Walker and his two nephews Julian and Matthew. All are holders of the Diploma in Funeral Directing and together have a wealth of experience in planning and conducting funerals throughout the UK and live within the communities they serve. David’s son Simon recently entered the firm and is currently studying for the Diploma alongside one of our directing team, James Hall. Matthew's wife Melissa is engaged in the accounts support of the business.
